Care Foundation and Charitable Trust Youth President Umair Ashraf Meets DC Srinagar to Discuss Drug Menace
Srinagar: Care Foundation and Charitable Trust, founded by Dr. Mehjabeen Nabi, today held an important meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, to discuss critical concerns and challenges related to the growing problem of drug abuse across the district.
The meeting was successfully coordinated by Youth President Umair Ashraf, along with active member Syed Farhat, who represented the organisation during the detailed discussions.
A major focus of the interaction was the widespread abundance and cultivation of cannabis across the Zakura–Gulab Bagh areas and the outskirts of Srinagar city. The representatives strongly emphasized the urgent need for timely, coordinated intervention and sustained on-ground action in these identified pockets to curb the menace effectively.
During the discussions, the foundation also emphasized the critical importance of educating the youth about the harmful effects of substance abuse on the brain and overall long-term health. They stressed the need for bringing active participation from young people and sensitizing them through behavioral reinforcement to encourage healthy choices. Furthermore, the members discussed various possible interventions to meaningfully engage local young people in rehabilitation programs, community prevention strategies, and long-term drug-awareness initiatives.
The Deputy Commissioner acknowledged the growing public concern surrounding substance abuse in the region and assured priority assistance, prompt action, and complete coordination from the J&K Police, the Excise Department, as well as other concerned government administrative bodies. He expressed his complete willingness to support an immediate, coordinated drive in the identified locations. The meeting also detailed the critical importance of strengthening localized drug-related intelligence networks and improving inter-departmental coordination to facilitate a much more effective prevention and response system against illegal drug-related activities.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the Care Foundation and Charitable Trust officially honouring the Deputy Commissioner with a Citation of Commitment. This gesture was presented in recognition of his unwavering dedication to anti-drug initiatives and his highly active, continuous role in advancing the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the district.
