Dr. Mahjabeen Nabi Named Among Grand 100 Women of Kashmir
Dr Mehjabeen Nabi, founder of the Care Foundation and Charitable Trust, has been selected for the “Grand 100 Women of Kashmir” award by the International Human Rights Organization. The recognition will be conferred during a special ceremony on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2026, at an event titled WWD-2026, jointly organised by Suraya, Saima and Tasleema.
The award acknowledges Dr Nabi’s sustained contribution to community welfare, women’s empowerment, and expanding access to healthcare and education across Kashmir. The IHRO selection committee said her inclusion in this year’s list reflects the impact of her grassroots driven initiatives that have addressed long standing gaps in social development.
Since founding the Care Foundation and Charitable Trust, Dr Nabi has led the launch of community clinics, scholarship programmes for girls, and skill development workshops for women, reaching thousands of beneficiaries in both urban and rural areas. The Trust has also played an active role during emergencies, including floods and other crises, by mobilising local volunteers and coordinating relief distribution for affected inhabitants.
In her response to the selection, Dr Nabi said the recognition belongs to the collective efforts of her team and the communities they serve. She said the award underscores the resilience and leadership of women in Kashmir and reaffirmed her commitment to creating sustainable opportunities that enable women and children to lead healthy and independent lives.
The IHRO event on March 8 is expected to bring together activists, policymakers and civil society leaders from across the region. The programme will include panel discussions, presentations by awardees on their ongoing projects, and networking sessions aimed at building partnerships to expand successful models of social intervention. Organisers said representatives from government departments, non governmental organisations and media outlets are expected to attend.
Dr Mehjabeen Nabi’s selection is being seen as a significant acknowledgment of locally rooted initiatives that combine direct service delivery with long term capacity building in Kashmir.
